Search "submit AI tool" and Google shows you a page of submit forms: every AI directory wants your listing. What it doesn't show you is which of them anyone visits.

What AI directories cost

Across the 152 AI directories we track:

  • 36 are free, with no paid tier at all.
  • 70 are freemium: a free listing plus paid upgrades like featured spots or faster review.
  • 45 are paid only. The cheapest paid listings start around $5, and the median paid-only AI directory charges $29.
  • 26 ask for a badge or backlink on your site in exchange for a free listing.

How to choose where to submit

  • Traffic beats domain rating for AI tools. A DR 80 directory with 5,000 visits a month sends almost nothing. Sort by visits first.
  • Match the category. AI agents belong on agent directories. MCP servers belong on MCP registries like Smithery, MCP.so and Glama. A writing tool doesn't.
  • Budget for one or two paid listings, not twenty. Most paid AI directories get less traffic than their price suggests.
  • Decide on badges up front. A badge in your footer is a small cost for a free listing, but twenty of them is clutter.
  • Space it out. Submitting to 80 directories in one afternoon means 80 near-identical descriptions on the same day. A few a day with copy written for each site looks like a real launch.

What to prepare before you submit

Every AI directory asks for roughly the same things, in slightly different shapes:

  • Tool name and website
  • A one-line tagline (often 60 characters or fewer)
  • A short and a long description
  • Category and tags

  • Logo (square), a screenshot or two, sometimes a demo video
  • Your email for the account and review
