What is a launch tagline?
A launch tagline is the one-line description shown under a product's name on a launch platform or directory. It's often the only text people read before deciding to click. Product Hunt caps it at 60 characters; the top products in our sample used a median of 49.
How long
Product Hunt allows 60 characters. In our 30-day sample, the top five products each day used a median of 49. Directory limits vary much more: across 108 submit forms we parsed, the median tagline limit was 160 characters, so write a 60-character version and a longer one.
What works
- Name the job and the result: "Turn meetings into follow-up emails".
- Say who it's for if the audience is specific: "for Shopify stores".
- Use plain words. Readers skim; a clever line they don't understand gets skipped.
- Mention AI only when it explains the product. 55% of top-five taglines did in our sample, but always with a concrete job.
What doesn't
Adjectives ("powerful", "all-in-one"), category labels without a job ("AI productivity platform"), and the product name repeated in the tagline.
Examples
| Weak | Better |
