How to Launch on Uneed (2026): Free Line vs Fast-track vs Skip the Line, and the Backlink Rules

Uneed is free to launch on, but the free line can take five months and the dofollow link needs a score of 20. The form, the score multiplier, what we found on 15 live listings, and when paying is worth it.

Guide cover: How to launch on Uneed: free vs paid, and the dofollow link, with a key numbers card titled "Uneed at a glance"
By Pruthvi RajOctober 5, 2026Updated November 2, 2026

Uneed is free to launch on, but the free "Join the line" option can put your launch date up to five months away, and Uneed's rules tie the dofollow backlink to an upvote score of 20. If you want a date you control and a guaranteed dofollow link, Skip the line costs $29.99. Fast-track ($14.99) sits in between: Uneed picks a date about 14 days out and the link unlocks at a score of 10.

That trade-off is the whole decision. This guide covers what Uneed is, the submission form, how the upvote score works (it isn't one person, one vote), what we found when we checked the links on 15 live listings, and when paying is worth it. Everything below was checked on the live site on 5 October 2026.

What Uneed is

Uneed is a daily launchpad for tech products, built and run by Thomas Sanlis (@T_Zahil on X). Each day a batch of products goes live at midnight Pacific and competes for upvotes, a bit like a smaller, calmer Product Hunt. Around the launchpad it has a community feed, product lists, "best of" category pages, a newsletter and a set of free tools.

The audience is mostly indie hackers, solo founders and developers. That shapes what does well: developer tools, AI utilities, productivity apps and small SaaS products with a clear one-line job. Consumer apps and agency services get listed but rarely reach the podium.

Founders who've used it tend to describe it the same way: smaller than Product Hunt, friendlier, and a steady trickle of traffic long after launch day. Uneed's pricing page quotes several of them, including one who said it "still generate[s] a bit of traffic every month" almost a year later.

How Uneed works

The launch queue

You submit a product, save it to an account, then pick how you join the queue. On the free line, Uneed assigns your launch date, at most five months out. Fast-track gets you an assigned slot about 14 days out, and Skip the line lets you choose the day.

Launch day

New launches go live at midnight Pacific time. When we captured the homepage, the countdown read "New launches in 3 hours 33 mins" at about 03:27 UTC, which lines up with 00:00 PDT. Products appear in a single "Best products launching today" list that re-sorts by score through the day.

The homepage launchpad: a countdown to the next batch, then the day's products ranked by upvote score.

The top three each day get badges. Weekly, monthly and yearly winners get badges too, and are featured in the newsletter. In our homepage capture the day's leader had 112 points, second place 93 and third 77, which gives you a sense of what a podium finish takes on an ordinary day.

The upvote score

The number next to each product is a score, not a head count. Uneed Pro members get a "+3 vote multiplier", added on top of any multiplier they already had, so one Pro member's upvote can count for several points. That matters for the thresholds below: 20 points might be 20 free users, or a handful of Pro members.

It also explains why active community members carry weight on Uneed. Being present in the community before your launch is worth more here than on a board where every vote counts once.

The ladders

After launch day, products stay on Uneed and keep climbing weekly, monthly and yearly leaderboards ("ladders"). Uneed lists "climb the ladders to keep the momentum" as one of the launch benefits, so a strong first day can keep you visible on the weekly ladder after launch day ends.

Step 1: paste your URL and let Uneed scrape it

The submit form has two required fields: your product name and your product address (URL). As you type the name, Uneed shows the slug your page will get (uneed.best/tool/your-name), so pick the name you want in that URL.

Uneed's submit form with the product name and product address fields
Uneed's submit form asks for only two things: a name and a URL. It scrapes the rest from your site.

Click Preview my product and Uneed scrapes your page for the tagline, description, logo and images. No account is needed to start; you're asked to sign up once you want to save it.

Because the scraper fills the listing from your site, fix your site's metadata before you click:

  • Your <title> and meta description. They become the first draft of your tagline and description. A homepage title like "Home | Acme" produces a weak listing.
  • Your Open Graph image. It's usually what gets pulled as the preview image. A 1200×630 image showing the product works better than a logo on a blank background.
  • Your favicon or logo file. A sharp, square logo of at least 240×240 avoids a blurry icon in the launch list.

Then edit the scraped draft rather than accepting it. A tagline that names the job ("Turn support tickets into a public changelog") does better than a category label ("AI-powered productivity platform"). We cover this in more depth in how to write a SaaS directory description.

Step 2: choose how you join the queue

Once the product is saved, you choose a launch option. This is where most of the difference in outcome comes from.

Uneed's launch options: Join the line (free), Skip the line ($29.99), Fast-track ($14.99), and Relaunch ($15)
Uneed's launch options in October 2026. The free line and Fast-track tie the dofollow link to your upvote score.
Option Price Launch date Stays published Dofollow link
Join the line Free Assigned, up to 5 months out Score of 10 Score of 20
Fast-track $14.99 Assigned, about 14 days out Not stated Score of 10
Skip the line $29.99 You choose Not stated Guaranteed
Relaunch (existing product) $15 Not stated Not stated Not stated

Two details are easy to miss:

  1. The free line has a minimum score to stay live. Under 10, your product isn't kept published. Under 20, it stays listed but the link isn't promised. Uneed's older help article says every launch gets "a lifetime do-follow backlink from your launch day, no matter your results". The pricing page is newer and ties the link to your score, so plan around the pricing page.
  2. Free accounts can have only one scheduled launch at a time. If you have two products, the second waits until the first slot clears, or you upgrade to Pro.

Should you pick a launch day?

Only Skip the line lets you choose. Uneed's own guidance is to launch on a Monday or Tuesday, when visitors are back in "discovery mode", and to avoid Fridays. If you're timing Uneed alongside a Product Hunt launch, put them on different days so you don't split your supporters.

Uneed Pro: is the subscription worth it?

Uneed Pro at $99 a year: private Discord, unlimited upvotes, +3 vote multiplier, a free relaunch each month, DR tracking and one free Skip the line on the yearly plan
Uneed Pro on the pricing page. The yearly plan includes one free Skip the line, worth $29.99.

Pro costs $99 a year (listed as down from $139). It includes:

  • One free Skip the line on the yearly plan (worth $29.99).
  • One free relaunch a month, banking up to two credits (worth $15 each).
  • A +3 vote multiplier and unlimited upvotes.
  • Domain Rating tracking for your products, with a history chart and email alerts.
  • A private Discord, product lists, video uploads on posts and "$2,100+" in partner perks.

Pro pays for itself if you'll launch more than one product or relaunch at least twice in a year: one Skip the line plus two relaunches is already $59.99. For a single launch, Skip the line on its own is cheaper.

Uneed's DR is in the mid-70s, and the link sits on a permanent product page at uneed.best/tool/your-name. To see how the rules play out, we opened the 15 listings linked from the homepage on 5 October 2026 and inspected the main Visit website button:

Upvote score Listings Main link
40 to 112 6 Followed (rel="noopener")
20 to 39 4 Followed
11 to 18 4 Followed
2 1 Followed

All 15 were followed, including five under the 20-point line. Either those launches paid for Skip the line, or Uneed only applies the threshold once the launch day has finished. One more detail: links you put inside your description are nofollow. Only the main button passes link value.

So the practical advice is: check your link the day after launch, not during it. Open your listing, right-click Visit website, choose Inspect, and confirm rel has no nofollow, ugc or sponsored.

The traffic is real as well. Uneed's estimate of 22,000 visits a month sent to product sites, spread across everything listed, means a typical product sees a few dozen to a few hundred visitors from its launch week, and more if it finishes top three.

How to reach 10 and 20 points

On the free line, the score is the only thing standing between you and the backlink, so plan for it the way you would a small Product Hunt launch:

  • Line up 10 to 15 people who already use the product, and send them the direct listing link the morning of launch (Pacific time). A score of 20 is very reachable with your own users and hard from strangers alone.
  • Be active in the community first. Post a build update in the week before, and comment on other launches. Pro members' votes count for more, and they notice regulars.
  • Post on launch day. The "Latest posts" sidebar sits next to the launch list. A short build story gets noticed, while bare "please upvote" requests read badly.
  • Reply to every comment. It keeps you visible, and Uneed's founder publicly polices cheating, so earn the score rather than trading votes.
  • Don't burn your relaunch. A relaunch costs $15 (or is free once a month on Pro), so prepare properly the first time.

The upsells

Uneed's launch, advertising and review services with prices
Launch, Advertise and Review: Uneed's three paid service lines in October 2026.
Service Price What it is
Auto-Submit to 100+ directories $249 Uneed submits your product to curated directories
Newsletter sponsoring $399 One placement to 26,000+ subscribers
Premium spot From $197 Featured on all listing pages for 1, 3 or 6 months
Main ad spot $297/month Sidebar ad
Public review $147 A blog post review targeting "[your product] review" searches

These are separate decisions from the launch. The $147 review is the most interesting one: if people already search for your product name plus "review", owning that result on a DR-76 domain can be worth more than the ad spots. The directory package is worth considering only after you've seen the list and checked it against how to judge directory backlink quality.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • A free route that still includes a dofollow link if you hit 20 points.
  • Cheap paid options: $14.99 or $29.99, one-time.
  • A real audience: ~173,000 visits a month by independent estimate.
  • Permanent product pages that keep sending a trickle of traffic.
  • An active founder who removes cheating.

Cons

  • Up to five months' wait on the free line.
  • One scheduled launch at a time on free accounts.
  • The vote multiplier makes the score less predictable than a raw vote count.
  • Two Uneed pages give different backlink rules (help article vs pricing page).

Common mistakes on Uneed

  • Launching with the scraped description. It's usually your homepage meta text, which is written for search, not for founders browsing a launch list.
  • Telling supporters the wrong time. Launches open at midnight Pacific. Supporters in Europe and Asia should vote in their morning, not the night before.
  • Asking strangers for upvotes. It's against the spirit of the board, and Uneed watches for it.
  • Stacking two launches on the same day. If Uneed and Product Hunt share a day, your supporters split.
  • Not checking the link after launch. It takes 30 seconds and tells you whether you got what you came for.

Uneed vs similar launch boards

Figures from AgentLaunch's catalog checks (DR via Ahrefs, visits as a 3-month SimilarWeb average).

Directory DR Visits/month Free route Paid option Link
Uneed 76 ~173,000 Up to 5-month wait $14.99 / $29.99 Followed (score rules apply)
Fazier 83 ~87,000 Yes, with badge $29 / $49 / $99 Mixed
MicroLaunch 64 ~93,000 Yes Premium launch Followed
TinyLaunch 73 ~77,000 Yes $39 premium, $15/week featured Mixed
PeerPush 75 ~55,000 Yes Paid launch plans Followed
Launch Llama 72 ~9,500 ~4-week review $39 / $99 a month Followed at ~20 upvotes

Uneed has the most traffic of the indie launch boards and one of the cheapest guaranteed links. It works best as one of several small launches in the same fortnight, not a standalone event.

Is paying for Uneed worth it?

  • Pay $29.99 for Skip the line if the backlink is the main reason you're there, you need the launch to land in a particular week, or you can't count on 20 points. A DR-76 dofollow link with no conditions is cheap compared with most paid listings.
  • Pay $14.99 for Fast-track if you're launching in the next few weeks and can get 10 points. It removes the five-month wait for half the price.
  • Stay on the free line if you have an engaged early audience, aren't in a hurry, and are submitting to several platforms anyway.
  • Buy Pro ($99/year) only if you'll launch or relaunch several times this year.

After you launch

Measure it properly. Add a UTM tag to the product URL you give Uneed (?utm_source=uneed&utm_medium=launch) so its traffic shows up as its own row in analytics, and compare signups rather than visits. Our guide to measuring directory referral traffic walks through the setup. Track your Domain Rating before and after with our free DR checker.

If you're launching on several of these boards, AgentLaunch's directory catalog keeps the fields, limits and link type for every site. Open AgentLaunch in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and your agent fills the forms for you, handing CAPTCHAs and payments back to you.

FAQ

Is Uneed free? Yes. "Join the line" is free, but Uneed assigns the date (up to five months out) and you need a score of 20 for the dofollow link.

Does Uneed give a dofollow backlink? Yes. It's guaranteed with Skip the line ($29.99), and on the other options it unlocks at a score of 20 (free line) or 10 (Fast-track). All 15 listings we checked had a followed main link.

How long does Uneed take? Up to five months on the free line, about 14 days with Fast-track, and the date you choose with Skip the line.

What time do Uneed launches go live? At midnight Pacific time, when the daily countdown on the homepage resets.

Can I launch more than one product on Uneed? Yes, but a free account can have only one scheduled launch at a time. Pro ($99/year) removes that limit.

Is Uneed better than Product Hunt? It's smaller and easier to place well on: about 110 points can win a normal day. Most founders use both, on different days. See our list of Product Hunt alternatives.
