Guide cover: Product Hunt relaunch rules: six months and a real update, with a steps card titled "Can you relaunch?"
By Pruthvi RajOctober 5, 2026Updated November 2, 2026

Yes, you can relaunch on Product Hunt, but only six months or more after your last post for the same product, the same company, or any product on the same root domain, and only with a significant update: for example a new mobile app, or a complete redesign with new functionality. New UIs, pricing changes and minor features don't count. If you try within six months, Product Hunt asks what changed and its team reviews the request. Even an approved relaunch isn't guaranteed homepage featuring.

These rules come from Product Hunt's help article "Can I relaunch my product?", updated 7 July 2026. Here's what qualifies, what doesn't, and how to plan a relaunch that works.

Decision steps for relaunching on Product Hunt
Six months, a significant update, and no guarantee of featuring.

The rules

Rule Detail
Waiting period At least 6 months between posts for the same product or from the same company
Root domain Products on the same root domain also need a 6-month gap
Significant update Required. It must "serve a substantially different use case or user"
Counts A new mobile app, a complete product redesign with new functionality
Doesn't count New UIs, pricing plan changes, minor updates
Within 6 months Submit a relaunch request. The system detects it and asks what changed, and the team reviews before approving
Several products at once Product Hunt suggests combining them into one post
Featuring "Having a relaunch approved does not guarantee it will be featured on the homepage"
Unsure? Email hello@producthunt.com before you build the post

The root-domain rule catches people

If you run several products on subdomains (app1.yourco.com, app2.yourco.com) or paths on one domain, they share a 6-month window. Launching product A in March blocks product B on the same root domain until September. Plan launch order across your portfolio, or give products their own domains if you launch often.

What makes a relaunch "significant"

Product Hunt's test is whether the update serves a substantially different use case or user. Ask:

  • Would someone who saw the last launch see a new product this time?
  • Does it reach a new platform (mobile app, desktop app, API)?
  • Is it a rebuild with new capabilities, not a reskin?

AI features bolted onto the same workflow usually fail this test. An agent that does a new job end-to-end might pass.

Two Product Hunt pages, one rule

Product Hunt's general launch guide says "You can launch as often as you have new significant product iterations available." That sounds looser than the six-month rule, but the help article is the specific policy and the one the system enforces: a relaunch request inside six months is flagged and reviewed. Read the launch guide line as "significant iterations only", and plan around six months.

A relaunch first comment that works

Your first comment carries most of the "why now" for a relaunch. A structure:

Hi again, Product Hunt. I'm [name]. We first launched [product] here in [month, year] as [one-line old description].

What changed: [the significant change, in one sentence]. [Why it serves a different use case or user.]

What we learned since: [one honest lesson from the first launch, ideally from comments then].

Who it's for now: [new user or use case].

My question: [a specific question about the new part].

Linking back to your first launch is fine and shows continuity. Don't reuse the old gallery: show what's new first.

Relaunch checklist

  • At least six months since your last post for this product, company or root domain
  • The change written as one sentence a stranger would see as a new product
  • Emailed hello@producthunt.com if you're unsure it qualifies
  • New tagline (max 60 characters) about the new capability
  • New gallery: the new part first, at 1270 × 760
  • A first comment that explains what changed and why
  • Personal notes to last launch's commenters, asking for feedback on the new part

How to plan a relaunch

  1. Check the date: six months from your last post for that product, company or root domain.
  2. Write the change down as one sentence a stranger understands. If you can't, it isn't significant.
  3. Email Product Hunt first if you're unsure. They invite it.
  4. Treat it as a new launch: new gallery, a new tagline (max 60 characters), and a first comment that explains what changed since last time and why.
  5. Bring back last time's supporters with a personal note, not an upvote request.

Alternatives while you wait

Six months is a long time. Meanwhile:

  • Launch on platforms with shorter cycles or built-in relaunches: Uneed ($15 relaunch), Microlaunch (unlimited relaunches for major releases on paid packs), TinyLaunch
  • Post a changelog-style update in Product Hunt's forums (not a new launch)
  • See how to relaunch a SaaS product for the broader plan

Worked examples

Change Qualifies? Why
New native mobile app for a web product Yes, after 6 months Product Hunt's own example of a significant update
Complete rebuild with new core functionality Yes, after 6 months "Complete product redesign with new functionality"
New pricing plans and a free tier No Pricing changes are explicitly not significant
New dashboard design No New UIs are explicitly not significant
An AI assistant inside the same workflow Probably not Same use case and user, unless it does a new job
A second product on a subdomain of the same domain Only after 6 months Same root domain rule
A new product for a different user, own domain Yes It's a new product, not a relaunch

If your relaunch request is declined

Product Hunt says it reviews the description of what changed and applies the same "significant update" standard. If it's declined, use the time: ship the change, collect reviews and case studies from existing users, launch on platforms with lighter rules (Uneed, Microlaunch), and come back once six months have passed.

FAQ

How often can you launch on Product Hunt? Once every six months per product, company or root domain, and only with a significant update.

Does a pricing change count as a relaunch? No. Product Hunt says new UIs and pricing plan changes aren't significant updates.

Is an approved relaunch featured on the homepage? Not necessarily. Approval doesn't guarantee featuring.

Can I launch two products from the same domain? Yes, but products on the same root domain need a six-month gap between them.

Does a relaunch get featured on Product Hunt's homepage? Not automatically. Product Hunt says an approved relaunch isn't guaranteed homepage featuring.

Can I launch a different product from the same company within six months? Only if it's on a different root domain and is a different product. Products on the same root domain share the six-month window.
