Glossary
What is a launch gallery?
A launch gallery is the set of images and video at the top of a product's launch page. On Product Hunt the first gallery image doubles as the preview people see when the launch is shared. Good galleries show the product doing its job, with a short caption on each image.
What to show
- The result: the product doing its main job, with a caption that states the benefit.
- How it works: two or three steps in one image each.
- A detail that sets it apart: an integration, a speed comparison, a template library.
- Proof: a customer quote, a number, or a known logo, if you have one.
- Pricing or a launch offer, optional.
Three to six images is the usual range. Put the demo video first or second if you have one.
Sizes and formats
Product Hunt recommends 1270 by 760 pixels for gallery images; other platforms use similar landscape ratios. Use PNG or JPG for screenshots, keep text large enough to read on a phone, and check the first image as a social preview. See Product Hunt screenshot dimensions.
Common mistake
Marketing graphics with no product in them. Visitors want to see what they'll use. A real screenshot with a clear caption beats an abstract illustration every time.
Example
A scheduling app's gallery: (1) a calendar filling itself from an email, caption "Books meetings from your inbox"; (2) the three-click setup; (3) the integrations; (4) a quote from a customer who saved four hours a week. Each image makes one point, readable on a phone.
FAQ
How many gallery images should a launch have?
Three to six, with one idea each.
Can I use a GIF in the gallery?
Yes, Product Hunt accepts GIFs, but keep them small and short.
Should the first image be my logo?
No. Use the product doing its main job; the logo is already shown next to the name.
