What is a relaunch?
A relaunch is a second public launch of an existing product, usually after a major update, a rebrand or a pivot. Launch platforms allow it with conditions: Product Hunt accepts relaunches after significant changes and asks makers to wait a while between launches. A relaunch works when there's real news to share.
When it's allowed
Product Hunt lets makers launch a product again when it has changed significantly, such as a new version, a major feature or a pivot, and asks for a gap between launches. Smaller platforms have their own rules; some allow one launch per product only. Our guide on Product Hunt relaunch rules has the details.
What counts as relaunch news
- A new major version with features people asked for.
- A rebuild for a new audience or use case (a pivot).
- A new platform: mobile app, desktop app, API.
- A big pricing change, such as a new free plan.
A new logo or minor fixes aren't enough; editors won't feature it and voters won't care.
How to plan it
Write the launch page around the change: tagline, first image and first comment all lead with what's new. Invite users from the first launch; they're your most credible commenters. Update every directory listing at the same time so the facts match. See how to relaunch a SaaS product.
Example
A note-taking app that launched quietly two years ago relaunches after adding offline sync and an AI search people kept requesting. The first image shows the AI search answering a question across 1,000 notes. Past users comment about the change, and the relaunch finishes in the top five, far above the original launch.
