What is a claimed listing?
A claimed listing is a directory or review-site profile that the product's owner has verified and taken control of. Many directories add products themselves or let users suggest them; claiming lets you correct facts, update screenshots and reply to reviews. Some mark claimed listings as verified.
Why unclaimed listings exist
Review sites, alternatives directories and startup databases add products from user suggestions, crawls and data partners. Your product may already be listed with old screenshots, wrong pricing or a dead link. Submitting a new listing usually fails as a duplicate; claiming the existing one is the fix.
How verification works
Common methods: an email from your company domain, a meta tag or file on your site, a DNS record, or a sign-in with the account that created the listing. Review sites such as G2 and Capterra verify vendors before giving access to the profile and reviews.
What to update after claiming
- Name, tagline, description and category.
- Logo, screenshots and video.
- Pricing and plans.
- Links to your site, docs and social profiles.
- Replies to existing reviews.
Example
A SaaS founder finds her product on an alternatives site with a two-year-old description and a pricing page that no longer exists. She claims it by email from her company domain, updates everything in ten minutes, and the listing starts appearing under the right competitors.
