What is an integration marketplace?

An integration marketplace is a platform's own directory of apps that connect to it, such as the Slack App Directory, the Zapier app directory or the Shopify App Store. Listing there puts your product in front of that platform's users at the moment they look for an add-on. It requires building the integration first.

Why they convert

People browse an integration marketplace because they already use the platform and want it to do more. A listing that solves their problem is one click from being installed. That intent makes these marketplaces some of the best-converting listings a product can have.

Examples

  • Zapier lists apps with triggers and actions other users can connect.
  • Slack App Directory lists bots and apps that work inside Slack.
  • Shopify App Store lists apps for merchants, with reviews and rankings.
  • VS Code Marketplace lists editor extensions.

What it takes

Build the integration with the platform's API, follow its review guidelines (security, privacy, design), write a listing for that platform's users and plan for reviews. Rankings inside the marketplace depend on installs, ratings and relevance, so early users and reviews matter.

Example

A meeting notes tool builds a Slack app that posts summaries to a channel. After approval, its Slack directory listing brings more installs in a month than all its directory listings combined, because every visitor is already a Slack user looking for exactly that.

FAQ

From days to several weeks, depending on the platform's review.

Do I need an integration to list?
