What is email verification?
Email verification is a step where a site sends a link or code to the email you entered and waits for you to confirm it before activating an account or publishing a submission. It proves the address is real and yours. 12 of the 352 directory flows our agent recorded included an email code step.
Why sites use it
- Stop fake or mistyped emails.
- Reduce spam submissions.
- Make sure they can contact you about your listing.
In directory flows
Our agent saw an email verification code in 12 of 352 submit flows, and many more send a confirmation link after account sign-up (88 flows needed an account). Missing these emails is a common reason submissions never go live.
Managing it
- Use one dedicated inbox for launch accounts.
- Whitelist directory domains or check spam during launch week.
- If an agent handles submissions, either give it controlled access to that inbox or have it pause for you to enter codes.
Example
A founder notices five pending listings that never went live. All five had sent confirmation emails to spam. Confirming them publishes the listings the same day.
FAQ
Why do directories ask me to verify my email?
To confirm you're real and reachable, and to cut spam.
What if the code never arrives?
Check spam, wait a few minutes, and request a new one.
Should I use a disposable email for directories?
No. Many directories block them, and you'll need the inbox later.
Can an agent read verification emails?
Only if you give it access to the inbox; otherwise it pauses for you to enter the code.
