Glossary
What is Bing Webmaster Tools?
Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's free tool for site owners to see how their site performs in Bing: search performance, indexing, sitemaps, backlinks, SEO reports and IndexNow submissions. Bing's index also feeds other search and AI products, so its data matters beyond bing.com.
Main features
- Search performance: clicks, impressions, CTR and position in Bing.
- URL inspection and submission.
- Sitemaps and crawl information.
- IndexNow: see URLs submitted through IndexNow.
- Backlinks: links Bing knows about, including competitor comparison.
- Site scan: technical SEO checks.
Why it matters
Bing's index powers Bing, DuckDuckGo's web results in part, and Microsoft Copilot, and other AI products use Bing's search API. Fast, complete Bing indexing can help visibility in more places than bing.com alone.
Setup
Sign in, then import your sites from Google Search Console, or verify with a DNS record, meta tag or file. Submit your sitemap and, if you publish often, set up IndexNow.
Example
After publishing hundreds of pages, we pushed them through IndexNow and submitted the sitemap in Bing Webmaster Tools; the IndexNow page listed 373 URLs received the same day.
Useful reports to check first
After setup, look at the Site Explorer for crawl errors, the URL Inspection tool for key pages, the Backlinks report for links Bing sees (including some Google Search Console doesn't show), and the Search Performance report for queries where you already appear in Bing.
